The photo printing studio of Beau Plan moved a few weeks ago… but not too far! It is now settled in the heart of the Maison des Artisans, just behind the Creative Park. Let’s take a tour.
Nestled among what seem to be century‑old mango trees, the new Octopus workshop found its home in June in a charming little house. Like a blank canvas, this little building became the foundation of inspiration for Gaëlle Gonzalez when designing the new space.
A Look Back
It has already been six years since The Octopus studio has grown with each new idea! What started out as a photo printing studio has, year after year, expanded its influence in the artistic scene. While its printer, fittingly named The Octopus works its magic, delivering extraordinary precision to every print it brings to life, Gaëlle continues to support a growing number of artists, creatives, and individuals in their projects. From photo exhibitions across the island to interior decoration projects, and from reproducing works of art and limited‑edition photographs for private collections, Gaëlle and her studio never shy away from a challenge.
A Creative Space Where the Mind Wanders
In this new workshop, one room is dedicated entirely to the mighty Octopus. While the printer works at full speed with steady precision, Gaëlle keeps a close watch: checking colour accuracy, print quality, and the drying process — her passion for photography is evident, and nothing escapes her expert eye.
But let’s leave Gaëlle to her work and explore further. With Louise by our side, we discover the rest of the house — and there’s plenty to see! By moving into the Maison des Artisans, Gaëlle was able to realise a long‑held vision: transforming her workshop into a permanent exhibition space. Works by talented photographers and painters line the walls: Chloé Ip, Keivan Cadinouche, Javed Jeetoo, Anne‑Lise Ramooloo, Elizabeth Leech… to name just a few.
In one of the rooms, a small library invites curious minds and photography lovers to browse through books on the craft. Whether showcasing Mauritius, photographic techniques, or the works of renowned artists, these books offer yet another deep dive into the creative world of the studio.
Whether you’re a photography enthusiast, a dreamer, or simply a passer‑by, trust us: this is a visit you won’t want to miss!
