Go Greencoast!
Greencoast International School was born from a collaboration between Mauritian architecture firm VLA and Frenchman Thierry Bégat. Since its inception in January 2019, the school has accommodated students in kindergarten and primary classes. One glance at it, and it becomes apparent that this bright yellow school is quite unlike others.
Design
Greencoast was designed like a village and conceived with nature in mind, using lightweight materials and innovative construction techniques. Classrooms are naturally ventilated and adjustable in a way that allows for spaces to be used flexibly over time.
Learning
Greencoast prepares its students for life. They learn to become independent in a relaxed and friendly environment, notably through playful and interactive teaching methods, and themes rooted in the 21st century. In fact, it is the world’s first pre-primary school to be EYLC-accredited.
Creativity
At Greencoast, creativity is encouraged and talents are valued. Ukulele lessons with a local artist, art classes, educational games…
Green
While nature is prevalent within the architecture and is a core tenet of Greencoast’s philosophy, it also trickles into the projects offered to students: permaculture, organic vegetable gardens, recycling… Each day, students put their ‘Green’ values into practice!
Aara Dulmar, 3, describes Greencoast
“I go to Greencoast school, and Sabine and Adeline are my teachers. They have taught me not to use plastic because it is really not good. At school, i love my dolls and the little cars! We paint and draw a lot. My best friends are Phoebe, Timothe, Tiago and Theo.”
