Reforestation project: Beau Plan takes a proactive and responsible approach
As part of the responsible development of the Smart City of Beau Plan, a regional reforestation program has begun. Aligned with Beau Plan’s vision of ensuring development that is sustainable and in harmony with nature instead of against it, the program aims to develop new areas of greenery in Beau Plan and its surroundings.
This program is divided into 4 distinct measures, in order to increase the CO2 absorption capacities of the region while improving the quality of life of its inhabitants.
- Creation of a ‘Green Belt’ in Bois Rouge
The project began with the planting of more than 500 endemic trees and exotic plants on an area of 4000m2 along the village of Bois Rouge. This initiative represents a ratio of 3 times higher than the amount of trees that will be cut along the motorway.
- Creation of a ‘Green Border’
The main road of Bois Rouge, a region with which the city of Beau Plan has been cooperating for a few years, will also have a green alley composed of 20 trees as of January .The idea is thus to ensure continuous improvement of the living environment of the inhabitants while ensuring the capture of CO2 on this section, used by the inhabitants of the region and the North.
- Tiny Forest Project
The concept of ‘Tiny Forest’, developed and tested in Japan by botanist Akira Miyawaki, is composed of endemic trees, shrubs, plants and ferns over an area of 100m2. These trees and plants have a 10 times higher CO2 absorption capacity in comparison to normal forests. This project, which, beyond the carbon impact, allows to regenerate the endemic fauna and flora 10x faster than in an exotic environment, will also be done near the new sports centre provided by Beau Plan. More than 600 shrubs, plants and trees will be planted on an area of 200m2 as of February 2023.
The project will be carried out in collaboration with experts, Novaterra staff, residents, school students and some NGOs in the region, in order to encourage this type of initiative by residents in different parts of the district.
- Revegetation of the Business District
The development of this area, like all those in Beau Plan, also takes into account landscaping plan to keep the area green . Although it requires the cutting of a few trees along the highway, this new business district will eventually include more than 9m2 of green space per user. Overall, more than 600 trees will be planted between 2022 and 2024 and 4 urban parks will be developed over time.
The year is already drawing to a close. 2022 has been punctuated by events of all kinds that reflect the dynamism of this city in the making. Let’s look back at the highlights.
