In 2023, L’Aventure du Sucre was awarded the Made in Moris label! This is well-deserved recognition, as the museum is a true pioneer in cultural and eco-responsible tourism in Mauritius, dedicated to preserving heritage and promoting local art and culture. If you haven’t been there in a while, here are a few compelling reasons to visit.
- Immerse Yourself in the Planet’R Exhibition
Step into a life-sized house designed by artist Brian Lamoureux and discover eco-friendly tips based on the principles of the 5 Rs: Refuse – Reduce – Reuse – Recycle – Return to Earth. This superb immersive experience features artworks created from waste materials, such as Laurie Madelaine Castel’s paintings and Kan Chan Kin’s musical instruments.
- Admire Stunning Murals by Local Talents
Staying true to its commitment to sustainable development and the promotion of art, L’Aventure du Sucre has invited Mauritian street artists to decorate the museum’s walls. Created by Joshila Dhaby, Sapna, and Baba Gaïa, these beautiful, colorful murals celebrate Mauritian nature and aim to raise awareness about environmental preservation.
- Appreciate (and Support!) the Originality of Works Created in Solidarity Workshops
In collaboration with Mauritian artists known for their ecological and social commitment, L’Aventure du Sucre regularly organizes fun and educational workshops on the art of recycling for beneficiaries of NGOs supported by Terra Foundation. While strolling through the gardens or the restaurant, you can enjoy some of these original artistic works. You can even purchase some at the boutique!
- Discover a New Structure in the Gardens
L’Aventure du Sucre has had the honor of inheriting a replica of an 18th-century sugar mill. Designed for the French film “Ni chaînes, ni maîtres”—shot in Mauritius in 2023 and set to release in France in 2024—this reconstructed mill is now a permanent part of the museum’s gardens. You can admire this beautiful structure before its official unveiling.
- Have a Great Time with the Family!
A visit to L’Aventure du Sucre is a delight for all family members! And we’re not just talking about the tasting workshops at the end of the tour. The museum offers an educational experience for adults and teenagers, as well as specially designed activities for children aged 7 to 13 and younger kids. It’s a chance for everyone to (re)discover the history of our island shaped by sugar and the secrets of sugarcane, all at a very affordable price.
