A creative book celebrating the colors of Mauritius and an exhibition dedicated to the beauty of our island—this is the ambitious two-in-one project launched by the young Mauritian publishing house, In Other Words Éditions. Proudly supported by Beau Plan, here’s everything you need to know about it!
The Vision: Showcasing Mauritian Heritage
At the heart of the project is a simple yet powerful desire: to highlight Mauritius’ rich heritage—its culture, gastronomy, landscapes, and iconic products. When Sandra Mussard, Mélissa Leclézio, and Elena Boulart joined forces to bring their idea to life through In Other Words Éditions, they had no idea just how far it would take them!
A Book Coloured in Mauritian Hues
From this vision was born Moris Ikonik, a vibrant coffee table book that captures the essence of Mauritius. From Le Morne to Dodo slippers, through Chinatown, Creole language, and flamboyant trees, the book explores 50 cultural icons that define the island.
The texts, primarily written by the three co-authors, are accompanied by stunning photographs of Mauritius taken by a talented group of local photographers. With contributions from Patrick Laverdant, Vincent Montocchio, Anne-Lise Ramooloo, Catherine Li, Noémie de Ravel, and more than a dozen others, the book presents Mauritius in its most raw and authentic form—through spontaneous snapshots, breathtaking aerial drone shots, and everyday scenes.
An Exhibition at the Beau Plan Creative Park
With the book set to launch on March 21, In Other Words Éditions is taking the project a step further. To celebrate the work of the artists involved, they are organizing an exhibition featuring the book’s stunning photography.
Co-created with The Octopus, L’île aux Cadres, and My Pop Up Store, in partnership with PhoenixBev and Beau Plan Creative Park, this exhibition will showcase some of the book’s most striking images, available for purchase in various formats. And of course, the book itself will be officially unveiled to the public during the event!
